This year annual scientific meeting was held at Sheraton Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui from 1st November to 3rd November 2002. The theme for the meeting was "New Frontiers".
Conference / Research Grant
In order to encourage the trainee anaesthesiologists to participate in the ASM 2002, the Society conferred the conference grant to trainees to attend this joint event. This conference / research grant covered a full early bird registration fee of the meeting and some of the expenses of local research projects
SAHK Sponsorship for Trainee Anaesthetic Course
The Society has set up sponsorship for trainee members to attend local and overseas anaesthetic courses.
Certificate Course for Anaesthetic Nursing
The eighth class of "Certificate Course for Anaesthetic Nursing" started in March 2002 was successfully run. The Society will continue to run the ninth class starting February 2003.
The Council agreed that the Society would continue to hold a Spring Dinner which serves as a welfare function for our existing as well as new members. The dinner will be held on Thursday night 13th February 2002 and members are cordially invited to participate in this social event. Only a minor cost will be charged and the Society would subsidize major part of the expenses. The Council would also like to invite our honorary lecturers and speakers to this dinner, in token of our thanks and appreciation for their continuing support and contributions to the Society activities.

The Annual Scientific Meeting in Anaesthesiology 2002, jointly organized by the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists and the Society of Anaesthetists of Hong Kong, was successfully held on 1-3 November 2002 at the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel. There were more than 260 delegates (with an additional 125 non-meeting registrants attended the workshop) from all over the world included: China, Macau, Australia, New Zealand, USA, United Kingdom, German, Thailand, Netherlands, Ireland and Canada.
The meeting, together with the workshops were all well received, with 20 registrants attended the off-site SPASM (Simulator-based Practical Airway Scenarios Management) Workshop held at North District Hospital; 23 registrants attended the off-site Anatomy Workshop held at the Chinese University; 147 attended the off-site Renal Replacement Workshop held at Prince of Wales Hospital and 22 registrants attended the Neuro-monitoring Workshop. We have received more than 40 scientific papers from various countries to the Free Paper / Trainees' Formal Project Prize sessions. The spirits of our guests / delegates were well maintained by the social programs: SAHK Cup Golf Tournament, conference dinner and lunch.
I would like to thank all the speakers and tutors for their expert knowledge in the field which provided the highest quality continuous medical education to all the participants. I would also like to thank all the members of the Organizing Committee for their effort and time to organize such a successful meeting.
The upcoming Annual Scientific Meeting 2003 will be held in conjunction with Asian Oceanic Society of Anaesthetic Pharmacology (previously Asian Oceanic Society of Intravenous Anaesthesia) in September 2003.
Finally, I would like to thank all of you for your continuous support of the Annual Scientific Meeting and we look forwards to see you next year.
The Certificate Course of Anaesthetic Nursing 2002 was successfully held between 1st March to 27June 2002. This was the 8th class and had 72 candidates. The course was accredited 42 HACNE points by IANS, HA. The 9th course will be held between 28th February to 30th June 2003.
